DISCOVER A WORLD OF ARTS IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD

COVID STATEMENT

Kia ora whānau,

It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we announce this year’s Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival is cancelled.

As you may have guessed, with New Zealand moving into the red setting of the Covid-19 framework we are among the many festivals and events for which going ahead is no longer feasible.

Crucially, with the number of attendees allowed at public gatherings now restricted to 100 people, moving forward at limited capacity would be both cost and resource prohibitive.

While we’re sad we will not be able to give Kirikiriroa Hamilton the arts festival it deserves this year, we support the government’s decision to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 in our communities.

All ticket holders to HGAF events will be contacted by the event’s ticketing agent and given the option of a refund.

This year’s festival, more than any other before it, was only ever made feasible thanks to the incredible support of our community, and the unwavering loyalty of our sponsors, funders and event partners.

To those of you who donated through our BOOSTED crowdfunded campaign – your support means the world to us. You will be contacted directly by the Arts Foundation and offered a refund. Should you be happy for us to keep your donation, it will go towards ensuring the future of the festival and a bigger and brighter 2023.

Rest assured we will move forward with determination to deliver a world class arts festival next year when, fingers crossed, we are in a position to do so. Until then…

GET TO THE HUB

The Grassroots Trust Festival Hub is at the heart of the action, with free and live entertainment celebrating local artists and musicians starting at 5pm every night. Thanks to an exciting new partnership with Village, this is also the place to savour the sights and sounds of the festival, relax with a drink and enjoy some incredible locally produced food.

Come together with friends and whanau and take in the sweet, sweet festival vibes, mingle with artists or enjoy a sunset over the stunning Turtle Lake.

The Grassroots Trust Festival Hub and Stage of Enlightenment are made possible thanks to the generous support of the Grassroots Trust, University of Waikato and Norah Howell Charitable Trust.

BEYOND THE GARDENS

Our city is growing, and so are we. With the magical Hamilton Gardens firmly established as the heart of the Festival, we’re excited to extend our footprint to now include the Clarence Street Theatre and Victoria on the River.

Our venues beyond the Gardens will be hosting art activations, theatre, music, comedy, discussion and dance events so you can experience the Festival across our city.
