HGAF 2023 – Call out for Artist Expressions of Interest

Kia ora whānau.

We’re back and we can’t wait to hear from you!

After making the tough call to cancel this year’s festival, we now have our sights firmly set on 2023.

Next year marks our 25th anniversary and to celebrate this milestone we’ll be extending an invitation to audiences across Aotearoa to experience the magic of the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival.

For the uninitiated, each year HGAF encompasses the full spectrum of performing arts – where comedy, dance, music, and theatre mingle and merge against the backdrop of the enchanting Hamilton Gardens.

As we continue to grow into one of New Zealand’s largest regional arts festivals, we’ve expanded beyond the Gardens, along the mighty Waikato River and into the CBD. Venues include the Meteor, Clarence St Theatre and Victoria on the River (to name but a few).

We are now welcoming submissions for both new and existing works and we’re particularly interested in proposals for site-specific performances that can be brought to life in the Hamilton Gardens. Dream big!

To be considered for inclusion in HGAF 2023 (scheduled for 24 Feb-5 March), please take 15 minutes to fill out our Expressions of Interest form.

The Grassroots Trust Festival Hub is at the heart of the action, with free and live entertainment celebrating local artists and musicians starting at 5pm every night. Thanks to an exciting new partnership with Village, this is also the place to savour the sights and sounds of the festival, relax with a drink and enjoy some incredible locally produced food.

Come together with friends and whanau and take in the sweet, sweet festival vibes, mingle with artists or enjoy a sunset over the stunning Turtle Lake.

The Grassroots Trust Festival Hub and Stage of Enlightenment are made possible thanks to the generous support of the Grassroots Trust, University of Waikato and Norah Howell Charitable Trust.

Our city is growing, and so are we. With the magical Hamilton Gardens firmly established as the heart of the Festival, we’re excited to extend our footprint to now include the Clarence Street Theatre and Victoria on the River.

Our venues beyond the Gardens will be hosting art activations, theatre, music, comedy, discussion and dance events so you can experience the Festival across our city.
