BIG LAST YEAR. THIS ONE’S GOING TO BE HUGE!
Backyard Beats is back! It’s a party, positively bursting with flava, rhythm and funk. Backyard Beats is the ideal way to kick off the weekend, coz summer’s not over yet. Get set for hours of grooving on the Rhododendron lawn, while chilling to the sound of NZ’s best summertime grooves as the sun sets on a perfect Tron day. There will be bars and food stalls, and a whole lot of fun stuff like 10 pin bowling, Twister, a photo booth, and lots of giveaway goodies. We have assembled an incredible line-up of summertime bands including J Geeks and Summer Thieves. Headlining the gig will be NZ’s favourite funk band the Hipstamatics. This oh-so-tight 10-piece unit is legendary for high tempo soul, gorgeous voices and a big stomping horn section (check ‘em on YouTube). Aretha, Marvin, Brand New Heavies, Gnarls… Hipstamatics are going to P-A-R-T-Y! J Geeks are a futuristic tribal group that fuses the haka with electronic music, LED light suits and crafty pop culture references, and then combines it all into a humorous and brilliant spectacle. Grand finalists in ‘New Zealand’s Got Talent’, they have amassed over 10 million views on YouTube, and 110,000 Facebook Fans. J Geeks have shared the stage with Rihanna, Snoop Dogg and David Guetta. Summer Thieves are a melting pot of reggae, hip-hop, rock and funk who like to put on parties, and they have worked with Tiki Taane, and performed alongside Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Six60. NB This is not a BYO food and beverages event. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
